Mentor Selection Process

• Permanent status within district with 3 years of recent exemplary classroom teaching experience
• Valid California Professional Clear Credential
• Authorization to teach English Learners
• Ability to work with each candidate for at least one hour a week, outside of contractual hours
• Desire to become instructional leaders through collaboration
• Keen self-awareness and reflective on own teaching practice

Facilitate conversations to help new teachers

• Set goals that align to principal evaluations
• Analyze student work
• Reflect and plan lessons based on data

Observe planned lessons with agreed upon focus areas

• Co-assess the effectiveness of the lesson
• Analyze the student learning from that lesson
• Determine next steps

Attend monthly training during the school day

Facilitate new teacher growth, effectiveness, and development

• model lessons
• provide non-evaluative, observational feedback
• facilitate reflective conversations about evidence of teaching practice

Facilitate own growth through

• coach goal setting
• self-assessments

Paid $1000.00 + defined STRS benefits

• per semester
• per candidate
• once work is completed
